Essential Oils training held for entrepreneurs in Burundi
Bujumbura, Burundi
15 participants, including 3 women and 6 young entrepreneurs, attended a training and coaching program on essential oil production, quality management, and costing in Bujumbura, Burundi, under the EU-funded MARKUP II programme.
“We now have clear ideas for improving our processes and managing quality more effectively,” a participant shared.
Burundi’s tropical highlands—with their favourable climate and fertile soil—offer significant potential to produce essential oils. Crops such as patchouli, lemongrass, and eucalyptus flourish in the region, making it a promising hub for natural product exports.
With global demand for essential oils growing, the training held in March focused on building local capacities to meet international standards. The two-day session, followed by individual coaching for five SMEs, combined theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice. The focus was on quality management and costing, Patchouli oil production and review of essential oil standards and regulations.
Participants found the training relevant and impactful for their businesses. It enhanced their technical skills and competitiveness in the essential oils sector.
This initiative marks an important step toward positioning Burundian producers in the regional and international market.
