Delegation from the European Union meets MARKUP II collaborators
Roundtable — 21st African Fine Coffees Conference and Exhibition
During the 21st African Fine Coffees Conference and Exhibition (AFCC&E) held from February 26–28, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a roundtable discussion was convened with the European Union Delegation to Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC). This session provided a platform for MARKUP collaborators to share the impact of the initiative since its inception.
Mr. Edgar Mapunda, Managing Director of Mpola Coffee in Tanzania, credited MARKUP for significantly enhancing his company’s packaging—a development he described as a "game-changer" that led to a threefold increase in revenue. He remarked, "The support we received in improving our packaging transformed our business. It didn’t just elevate our brand; it directly boosted our sales three times and expanded our market reach."
Similarly, Ms. Phaima Nakalagwa from Mt Elgon Agroforestry Communities Cooperative Enterprise Limited in Uganda shared her inspiring journey. She highlighted how the support in accessing finance enabled her to scale her business. "Without MARKUP’s support, securing financing would have been a major challenge. This support has not only fueled business growth but also strengthened my confidence as an entrepreneur," she said.
