Good Business for Five Tanzanian Spice Exporters Recorded at the Food Ingredients Fair in Paris

It was their opportunity to meet with potential international buyers and display aromatic Tanzanian spices.

‘I learned that the spice market in Europe is all about connections; most buyers were not aware of Tanzania as a spice producer. By participating in Fi Europe & Ni I met some potential European buyers and promoted Tanzania as a origin of top quality spices,’ said an exporter.

The exporters had a busy schedule. They attended around 100 business meetings and negotiated deals with potential buyers. The five Tanzanian exporters left the fair with 20 concrete business leads with an aggregate of up to 1.75 million USD.

Grateful for the opportunity that the trade fair provided, participants felt that they gained deeper understanding of the European spices market. Another exporter said ‘The European spice market is a lot bigger than I thought and this is encouraging for us exporters, as long as we meet their criteria, price and quality. For the future we should look into obtaining the ISO 22000 certification and value addition processes.’
