Farmers in Mbeya Learn About Rainforest Alliance Standards

Through MARKUP, Solidaridad organised a Rainforest Alliance (RA) workshop in Mbeya in mid-October 2021. The workshop aimed at familiarising participants with new Rainforest Alliance standards requirements.
The new requirements arise from the recent merging of the UTZ certification programme and the Rainforest Alliance.
The workshop participants learnt about the advantages of Rainforest Alliance standards and their stages and steps. RA standards include management, farming practices, traceability of produce, social responsibility, income and shared responsibility and environmental standards. Participants also learned which of the RA standards are core standards, mandatory standards and self-selected standards.
The four-day workshop also highlighted new areas where support is needed.
