EU-EAC MARKUP Boosting the Avocado and Horticulture Sector

The EU-EAC Market Access Upgrade Programme (MARKKUP) supports SMEs in the avocado and horticulture sector in Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. Avocado is a newly emerging market for East African producers with over 70% export values in 2020 compared to 2019. Most avocado exports to the EU market originate from Kenya and Tanzania; Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi export only small quantities. In Rwanda, EAC MARKUP supports producers of green beans for export to East Africa and the European Union.
