Celebrating International Tea Day 2021

International Tea Day is celebrated every year on 21 May to observe, promote and foster collective actions to implement activities in favour of the sustainable production and consumption of tea and raise awareness of its importance in fighting hunger and poverty. This year International Tea Day was observed under the theme “Tea and Fair Trade” to appreciate the economic facts of tea and access to the international market.

EU-EAC MARKUP partner Solidaridad works with tea famers in Mbeya and Njombe in Tanzania to support them in improving agricultural practices and gain access to greater markets in East Africa and Europe. Together with their partners Tea Board of Tanzania and Tea Research Institute of Tanzania, Solidaridad celebrated International Tea Day at Njombe town. The event showcased how MARKUP improves domestic, regional and international market access for sustainable tea, coffee and horticulture products from Tanzania and demonstrated what is done to support the adoption of identified voluntary sustainability standards.
